Driver Fined After Two Children Stick Their Heads Through Sunroof on Highway

Traffic police in Vietnam fined a woman 5.9 million dong after two young children were seen sticking their heads through a car’s sunroof on the Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway.

The incident occurred at 4:15 p.m. on Sept. 1 near kilometer 23+110. Officers from Highway Traffic Police Team No. 6 saw the children outside the sunroof as the vehicle traveled along the expressway. They stopped the car at the Long Phuoc toll station and identified the driver as T.T.H.Y., 36, from Lam Dong province.

Police recorded two violations: allowing people to lie, sit, or cling outside a moving vehicle, and carrying passengers without seat belts where belts were available. The combined penalty was 5.9 million dong.

Authorities warned adults traveling with children to prevent them from putting their heads, hands, or bodies through vehicle windows or sunroofs. Passengers should wear seat belts whenever they are provided. Police said the danger is especially serious on expressways, where sudden braking, lane changes, evasive steering, or other unexpected situations can cause an accident. Adults should supervise children throughout the journey and stop them from standing or kneeling on seats to lean through the sunroof, even briefly.
