Driver Injured in Zakynthos ATV Crash; British Tourist Critical After Separate Collision

A driver sustained injuries and required hospitalization following an incident where a four-wheeled ATV, known locally as a 'γουρούνα' (γουρούνα), veered off the road on the Xygia-Alykes route in Zakynthos. The driver was transported by ambulance to the General Hospital of Zakynthos.

Ten firefighters, utilizing five vehicles, were involved in the operation to extract the driver from the overturned vehicle. The local Traffic Police are currently investigating the circumstances that led to the accident.

In a separate, severe incident on the island, a 20-year-old British tourist is fighting for his life. He remains in a coma after his ATV collided with a bus on the main road in Laganas, Zakynthos. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was airlifted to KAT Hospital in Athens, where his condition is described as extremely critical. His mother has reportedly traveled from England to be with him.

Local residents and medical professionals note that accidents involving ATVs are significantly more common on the islands compared to those involving motorcycles or other modes of transport.
