Drone Attack in Kherson: Vendor Targeted, Survives Attack

A civilian food vendor in Kherson narrowly survived a deliberate attack by a Russian FPV drone operator at a local market. The incident, captured on video, shows the drone targeting the vendor as he stood beside his car, laden with vegetables he sold for a living.

Ukrainian police condemned the attack, calling it an act of "terrorism" and a "war crime." In a statement on Telegram, they emphasized that such actions demonstrate how Russia "fights" by intentionally targeting civilians. The vendor, identified as a 52-year-old man, sustained blast trauma, shrapnel wounds, and a concussion but is reportedly in stable condition and receiving medical attention.

This attack occurs amidst a backdrop of intense Russian drone activity in the Kherson region. According to Yaroslav Yanushko, head of the Kherson City Military Administration, over two thousand Russian drones attack the city weekly. Anti-drone nets are deployed over streets, and public transport is equipped with electronic detection systems to protect residents. Yanushko stated that Russian attacks are often chaotic, targeting anything visible without clear military objectives, and are intended as terror against the civilian population.

Since the beginning of 2026, Russian drone attacks in Kherson have resulted in approximately 100 civilian deaths and around 1,000 injuries. The city's population has significantly decreased, with only about 63,000 residents remaining, a stark contrast to over 279,000 before the full-scale invasion in early 2022.
