Drone with explosive device found at German airport

German authorities responded to a security scare at Leipzig-Halle Airport after a drone equipped with an explosive device was found near the southern runway. The discovery led to the immediate closure of both runways and the diversion of several flights, including a passenger aircraft, to alternative airports.

Law enforcement and explosive ordnance disposal units were dispatched to the scene. A bomb disposal robot was deployed to examine the object. German officials confirmed that the detonator was successfully removed from the device. While the nature of the explosive device has not been fully specified, the northern runway was reopened after approximately two hours. The southern runway was already scheduled for maintenance.
