Drought Spreads to Depok, Residents Queue for Clean Water

Drought conditions are increasingly affecting parts of Indonesia, with residents in Depok, West Java, now facing severe water shortages. In RW 08, Cipayung Jaya, 78 households are struggling to access clean water, leading to long queues for relief supplies.

The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Kota Depok, in collaboration with PT Tirta Asasta, delivered 4,000 liters of water via a tank truck to the affected community on Wednesday. Personnel also provided a 250-liter water tank and advised residents on water conservation and safe storage.

The drought is a widespread issue across Indonesia this dry season. The Banten province is particularly hard-hit, with Governor Andra Soni reporting 140 affected locations across seven regencies and cities, excluding Tangerang City. These areas are grappling with an extreme drought attributed to the "El Nino Godzilla" phenomenon.

Other regions like Gunungkidul in Yogyakarta and several areas in East Java are also experiencing dry spells. In East Java, 14 districts are affected, with Lumajang, Mojokerto, and Situbondo escalating their status to "Emergency Response." The drought has also spread to Central Java and other islands.
