Drug-Driving Incidents Kill 2, Injure 6 in Changhua City; Police Arrest 7

Changhua City experienced a grim 12-hour period, with two separate drug-driving incidents causing two fatalities and six injuries. The first accident occurred on Changnan Road, where a small truck driver under the influence of drugs caused two deaths and three injuries. Shortly after, another incident on Donggu Road involved a truck crashing into a hypermarket, resulting in three injuries. The driver of the truck tested positive for amphetamines, indicating suspected drug use.

In response to the alarming incidents, the Changhua Police Precinct launched a significant enforcement operation. During this crackdown, authorities apprehended seven individuals for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Additionally, they arrested one fugitive wanted on drug charges and one escaped migrant worker. The operation also cited 81 major traffic violations, including running red lights.

Police emphasized their commitment to preventing serious traffic accidents and ensuring public safety. They announced plans for continued intensive inspections, road checks, and mobile roadblocks to strictly enforce laws against drug and alcohol-impaired driving. Furthermore, the police are dedicated to combating drug-related crimes, actively investigating the sources of illegal substances and demonstrating a firm resolve to purify social order.

From May 1st to May 23rd, the Changhua Police Precinct reported arresting 16 individuals for drug driving and 52 for drunk driving. The recent fatalities have prompted an escalation of these enforcement efforts, targeting high-risk areas and times for drug and alcohol-related accidents.
