Drunk driver crashes into barriers and another car in Šiauliai

A drunk driver caused a collision in Šiauliai, Lithuania, on July 17, resulting in damage to two vehicles and injuries to a passenger. The driver, born in 1981, was operating a BMW 520D with a blood alcohol level of 2.99 promille.

The incident began around 6:28 p.m. in Aukštelkes village, Šiauliai district, where the driver struck roadside barriers and fled the scene. Shortly after, at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Karaliaučiaus Street in Šiauliai, the same driver collided with a stationary BMW 520 XD at a traffic light. The driver again fled the scene after the second collision.

Following the second accident, a female passenger from the damaged BMW 520 XD, born in 1990, was transported to the hospital for medical attention. Authorities have initiated a pre-trial investigation into the incident under Article 281-1 of the Lithuanian Criminal Code, which pertains to driving a vehicle while intoxicated.

The report emphasizes the severe level of intoxication and the driver's subsequent actions, including fleeing the scene of both accidents. The investigation aims to determine the full circumstances and hold the responsible party accountable.
