Drunk driver hides under attic roof after police arrive

A driver accused of weaving through the streets of Wiesloch tried to hide from police in a storage room under an attic roof. Officers found him there with more than two parts per thousand of alcohol in his system, police said.

Witnesses reported the vehicle on Saturday evening and followed it. Police said the driver noticed them, accelerated and drove home. He then entered the house with an unsteady gait.

When officers arrived and rang the doorbell, the man’s wife initially said he was not at home. After police told her that witnesses had seen him enter the house, she allowed them inside. The officers eventually discovered the man in the storage room. Once he realized his hiding place had been found, he came out voluntarily.

Police reported a strong smell of alcohol. The man denied driving but agreed to a breath test. Officers took his driving license, and later discovered that authorities had already revoked it twice because of alcohol-related driving offenses.
