Drunk Driver Pursued Near Druskininkai

A drunk driver was apprehended near Druskininkai after a pursuit by Alytus County police. The incident occurred on August 1 around 3:15 PM on the Druskininkai–Leipalingis–Seirijai road. The driver of a "VW Passat" failed to stop when signaled by officers, leading to a chase that ended in the village of Lipliūnai.

Upon being stopped, the driver, born in 1993, was found to be heavily intoxicated, with a blood alcohol level of 2.88 permille. This level is significantly above the legal limit and poses a severe risk to public safety.

The report also highlights other instances of drunk driving across Lithuania on the same day. In Joniškis district, another driver with a 2.48 permille BAC was caught. In Švenčionys district, a passenger was injured when a drunk motorcyclist, who also lacked a license, lost control of the vehicle. Further incidents were reported in Vilnius district, Panevėžys district, Palanga, and Kretinga district, involving drivers with high blood alcohol levels.

Authorities have initiated pre-trial investigations into all these cases. The drivers face criminal liability, and their vehicles may be confiscated. The Police Department reported a total of 24 traffic accidents on Saturday, August 1, with two of them attributed to drunk drivers.
