Drunk Men Vandalize Car, Assault Cafe Patrons in Panevėžys

Police in Panevėžys reported that two intoxicated men caused a significant disturbance on the evening of August 28th. The incident began around 10:45 PM on Laisvės Avenue when a man born in 2003, who was reportedly intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of 1.34 promille, stopped in front of a car that had yielded to pedestrians.

The man then exhibited aggressive behavior towards the driver of the "VW Golf," using profanity and making gestures. He attempted to open the driver's door and punched the window. Simultaneously, another man, also born in 2003 and visibly intoxicated, approached the front passenger door. He kicked the door, causing damage, and shouted aggressively.

Following the assault on the vehicle, the two men proceeded to harass patrons at a nearby cafe, disrupting the peace. Both individuals suspected of committing these offenses were detained by the police.

A preliminary investigation has been launched under Article 284 of the Lithuanian Criminal Code, pertaining to public order violations. This article defines such offenses as engaging in insolent behavior, threats, malicious mockery, or vandalism in a public place, demonstrating disrespect for others or the environment, and disturbing public peace or order. Penalties can include public works, fines, restriction of liberty, arrest, or imprisonment up to two years.
