Dubai court orders driver to pay Dhs160,000 for severe injury in run-over accident

A Dubai court has awarded Dhs160,000 in compensation to a British man who suffered severe injuries after being hit by a vehicle in August 2022. The accident happened in Al Quoz, Dubai, when the man was standing behind his car in a parking spot and was struck by a vehicle driven by an Asian driver.

The British man sustained serious injuries, including fractures to his left forearm and foot, a fractured forehead, and swelling, abrasions, and bruises to his face and forearm. Medical reports confirmed he underwent surgery the day after the accident to stabilize his fracture and required several months of follow-up care.

Initially, the Dubai Misdemeanors Court fined the driver Dhs5,000 and suspended his license for three months. The court also transferred the civil aspect of the case. Following an appeal, the initial verdict was upheld, and the injured man pursued a civil suit, initially seeking over Dhs1.29 million. The Dubai Civil Court ultimately granted him Dhs160,000 in compensation.
