Duc Hoa commune reports on 'goddess of liberation' statue

Authorities in Vietnam's Tay Ninh province have confirmed that a controversial "goddess of liberation" statue, recently erected in the Duc Hoa commune, was built on land zoned for transportation within the Tan Duc Industrial Park. The commune's People's Committee has submitted a report to the provincial People's Committee detailing the unauthorized construction.

The statue, along with a four-story technical building and an underground water reservoir, was developed by the Tan Tao Industrial Park Investment and Industry Joint Stock Company. Initial checks revealed that the entire complex, covering over 907 square meters, was constructed on land designated for transportation routes according to the approved 1/500 detailed construction planning for the E.City Tan Duc urban area.

This unauthorized construction violates planning regulations, as the company proceeded with building permanent structures without a clear plan for the intersection and without adhering to the approved urban and construction plans. Furthermore, the project lacked essential investment and construction permits, and had not received expert opinions from cultural heritage management agencies.

Officials from the Duc Hoa commune's Economic Department initiated inspections in April, issuing work stoppage orders and requesting legal documentation from the developer, which was not provided. Despite subsequent meetings, the company remained slow to comply. Due to the complexity of the case, provincial authorities were consulted, leading to an administrative violation report being filed on June 27 against the construction project.
