Dutch driver clocked at over 235 km/h on German autobahn, pays 10,000 Euro fine

A 23-year-old man from the Netherlands faces a hefty fine and license suspension after being caught driving at extreme speeds on the A3 autobahn near Montabaur, Germany. A police patrol clocked the driver in a sports car traveling at over 235 kilometers per hour (approximately 146 mph), significantly exceeding the officers' own speed of 230 km/h.

Despite the police presence, the driver reportedly increased the distance between himself and the patrol car. He was observed weaving dangerously through heavy midday traffic, tailgating other vehicles, and making illegal overtakes to the right. Authorities stated that it was only due to fortunate circumstances that no accident occurred during his reckless maneuvers.

During the traffic stop, indications of drug use emerged. A preliminary test for THC, a component of cannabis, came back positive. The driver admitted to regularly consuming cannabis due to operating a coffee shop in Eindhoven, Netherlands, with his father.

Given that the driver resides abroad and did not disclose his income, police collected a security deposit of 10,000 Euros on the spot. His driver's license was also confiscated as investigations continue into charges of illegal motor vehicle racing and endangering road traffic.
