Dutch Shocks for Zverev, Medvedev as Seeds Fall in Canadian Open

The Canadian Open in Montreal witnessed a significant shake-up as top seeds Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev were unexpectedly defeated by Dutch opponents in the second round. The upsets continued as fellow title contender Taylor Fritz also made an early exit.

World number three Zverev, playing his first match since reaching the Wimbledon final, lost 6-7(3), 6-2, 6-4 to Tallon Griekspoor. These departures, along with earlier exits from other seeded players like Flavio Cobolli and Andrey Rublev, and a withdrawal by Felix Auger-Aliassime due to injury, have thinned the field considerably. Only four of the original top 10 seeds remain in the ATP 1000 event. Notably, top-ranked Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic opted to skip the tournament, while Carlos Alcaraz is sidelined with a wrist injury.
