Dutch tourist dies after boat capsizes at Iguazu Falls

A 26-year-old tourist from the Netherlands died following a tour boat accident on the Brazilian side of Iguazu Falls. Mark Lensink, who was on vacation with his family, drowned and suffered cardiac arrest after the boat, operated by Macuco Safari, overturned in the Iguazu River.

Authorities confirmed that Lensink, originally from Rijssen, Netherlands, received first aid after being rescued and was transported to a local hospital. However, medical personnel were unable to revive him, and his death was confirmed shortly after. Lensink had studied architecture and founded a construction and carpentry business in his hometown.

The incident occurred during an excursion designed to offer close-up views of the falls. Six Dutch tourists and two crew members were aboard the vessel when it capsized for reasons still under investigation. Military firefighters reported that Lensink's family members were among those affected.

Three women and one man received on-site medical attention and returned to their families. Two others were hospitalized in Foz do Iguaçu. A 49-year-old man remains under observation, while his 48-year-old wife was treated for a fractured foot. The Brazilian Navy is leading the investigation, examining potential human error, technical failures, or environmental factors. Macuco Safari has temporarily suspended its excursions to cooperate with the inquiry.
