Dutchman Herlings takes MXGP lead after Czech victory

Lotek, Czech Republic – Jeffrey Herlings of the Netherlands has seized the lead in the MXGP Motocross World Championship after a dominant performance at the Grand Prix of the Czech Republic. The Honda rider secured victory in both heats of the thirteenth round of the season, held at the Lotek circuit.

Herlings' strong showing saw him finish ahead of French riders Romain Febvre and Tom Vialle in the first heat. Spanish rider Rubén Fernández finished fifth. Notably, Lucas Coenen, who had led the World Championship until this event, was unable to compete due to a crash at the previous round in Great Britain.

In the second heat, Herlings once again proved unbeatable, finishing ahead of Vialle and Slovenian rider Tim Gajser of Yamaha. Fernández improved his performance to finish fourth in this heat. The overall Grand Prix standings saw Herlings in first place, followed by Vialle and Febvre.

With this victory, Herlings has accumulated 615 points in the overall championship standings, taking advantage of Coenen's absence. Coenen remains in second place with 566 points, but faces pressure from Romain Febvre, who is close behind with 541 points. The next event on the MXGP calendar is the Grand Prix of Flanders, scheduled to take place on August 2nd at the Lommel circuit in Belgium.
