Dyson Unveils Upgraded Airwrap Coanda 2x in South Korea, First Global Reveal

Dyson has unveiled an upgraded version of its popular Airwrap Coanda 2x multi-styler and dryer in South Korea, marking the product's global debut. The new model builds upon the original's "heatless styling" paradigm, which revolutionized the hair styling market by using air to curl hair instead of traditional heated plates.

The core is the Coanda effect. It means fluid (liquid or gas) tends to flow along an adjacent surface. The principle applied to the Airwrap is: when high-speed air flows along the surface of the barrel, surrounding air is pulled in, and the hair is naturally drawn towards the barrel.

The core innovation remains the "Coanda effect," where high-speed airflow causes surrounding air to be drawn in, gently wrapping hair around the barrel. This upgraded version retains the powerful "Hyperdymium 2" motor, capable of 150,000 RPM and 7kPa pressure, delivering twice the airflow of its predecessor for enhanced styling. The key differentiator this time is the addition of four new styling tools, expanding its versatility.

Among the new attachments is the "Airstraightener 2x," which combines airflow with "Air-Thermal Plates" to straighten hair without excessive heat. Unlike previous tools, users can manually grip the hair for greater styling precision. Two new barrels, a longer 40mm Coanda 2x curling barrel for faster styling of longer hair, and a conical Coanda 2x barrel designed for tighter curls, are also included. A larger "Large Round Volumizing Brush 2x" completes the new set, promising salon-quality blowouts.

The Hyperdymium 2 motor, applied to the Airwrap Coanda 2x, is smaller and lighter than the previous model, yet delivers 30% more power.

Smart technology enhances the user experience, with RFID sensors in the nozzles automatically setting the optimal temperature and airflow for each tool. The device also includes a temperature sensor that monitors air temperature over 1,000 times per second to prevent heat damage, along with sensors for filter detection and cleaning reminders. The "MyDyson" app offers personalized styling routines through an "i.d. Curl Mode."

The Airstraightener 2x combines the Airwrap 2x's powerful airflow with Dyson's proprietary 'Air-Thermal Plate' technology, straightening hair smoothly without excessive heat.

Despite the enhanced features and expanded toolset, Dyson has kept the price of the upgraded Airwrap Coanda 2x at 879,000 Korean won, the same as the previous model. The company is also running a "Switch Campaign" until the end of July, offering a 10% discount to existing Dyson customers, regardless of the product they own, along with a travel bag. The upgraded Airwrap presents a compelling option for users seeking both curling and straightening capabilities in a single device, though its premium price point remains a significant consideration.
