Writer E. Jean Carroll has finally received the $5.6 million awarded to her in a civil case against former US President Donald Trump. The payment, which includes the $5 million originally awarded by a New York jury in 2023 along with accumulated interest, was released after the US Supreme Court declined to hear Trump's appeal.

Carroll's lawyer, Roberta Kaplan, confirmed the completion of the payment. The funds had been held in an escrow account during the appeals process. The case stemmed from a 2023 civil trial where jurors found Trump liable for sexually abusing Carroll in the mid-1990s and for defaming her afterward. The lawsuit was filed under a New York law that allowed survivors to pursue long-standing sexual abuse claims.

Despite the funds now being transferred, Trump's legal team is persisting in its efforts to overturn the verdict. They had sought an emergency court order to block the money's transfer to Carroll, but this request was denied. Trump has consistently denied Carroll's allegations, maintaining that the encounter never occurred and that the lawsuit is politically motivated. He is also contesting a separate $83 million judgment awarded to Carroll in a defamation case related to his public comments following her initial accusations.
