Earthquake catastrophe: More than 4,000 fatalities after Venezuela quakes

The death toll from devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24 has officially climbed above 4,000, with authorities reporting 4,118 fatalities. The powerful tremors, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude, have left a trail of destruction, injuring 16,740 people and displacing nearly 18,000.

Jorge Rodríguez, president of the National Assembly and brother of the acting government leader, announced the grim figures on the platform X. The affected regions, particularly La Guaira, are littered with the rubble of collapsed buildings. More than a thousand weaker aftershocks have continued to rattle the country since the initial quakes.

With experts stating it is highly improbable that any survivors will be found, rescue teams are now concentrating their efforts on clearing the extensive debris and ensuring the provision of essential aid to those who have lost their homes and livelihoods. The scale of the disaster has left many people reliant on humanitarian assistance.
