Earthquake in NTT: Petrokimia Gresik Shifts Empowerment Program to Emergency Response

Petrokimia Gresik has delivered basic necessities worth Rp75 million to communities impacted by an earthquake in Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT), Indonesia. This aid is part of the company's emergency response and initial support aimed at helping residents resume their social and economic activities.

The agro-industrial solutions company, a member of the PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) holding, distributed the aid in stages between August 16 and 19, 2026, through the Relawan Bakti BUMN program. The supplies included essential items such as rice, sugar, oil, and blankets, intended to meet the immediate needs of the affected population during the emergency phase.

Petrokimia Gresik's President Director, Daconi Khotob, stated that the distribution began the day after the earthquake, demonstrating the company's swift response. "Our aid is distributed together with Pupuk Indonesia. The distribution is done in stages, currently in the form of basic necessities needed by the community during the emergency response period. We hope this aid can alleviate the burden of the affected communities," Daconi said in a statement on Saturday.

Initially, Petrokimia Gresik and Pupuk Indonesia were set to host the 2026 Relawan Bakti BUMN Program in Ruteng, Manggarai Regency, NTT, focusing on community empowerment and agricultural development. However, a magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck Flores on Saturday, August 15, 2026, prompting a shift in focus. The program's agenda was adjusted from empowerment to emergency response support for those affected by the disaster. Daconi explained that this adjustment was made because community needs changed drastically due to the earthquake, making the fulfillment of basic necessities the priority before resuming empowerment and economic development programs.
