Ecuador holiday weekend sees over 39,000 emergencies handled by ECU 911

Ecuador's integrated security service, ECU 911, reported managing a significant volume of emergencies during the recent holiday weekend commemorating the First Cry of Independence. Between August 8 and 10, 2026, the service coordinated responses to a total of 39,235 incidents across the country.

The capital city, Quito, recorded the highest number of alerts with 8,294, followed closely by Guayaquil, which registered 7,066. Other cantons with a notable number of calls included Cuenca with 2,008, Santo Domingo with 1,249, and Ibarra with 1,244. These figures highlight the concentration of activity and potential incidents in the country's major urban centers during the holiday period.

Citizen security concerns constituted the largest category of emergencies, with 27,401 cases reported. This was followed by 4,062 alerts related to health management, 3,837 concerning traffic and mobility, and 1,488 for municipal services. The ECU 911 system utilized its nationwide network of nearly 6,000 cameras, 3,100 personnel, and 18 operational centers to monitor key locations, including tourist sites, transportation hubs, and public spaces, ensuring a coordinated response.
