Ecuador offers rescue team to Colombia after 7.4 magnitude earthquake

Ecuador's President Daniel Noboa expressed solidarity with Colombia after a powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck the nation on August 10, 2026. He officially offered a specialized urban search and rescue (USAR) team to assist in immediate recovery efforts.

The Ecuadorian aid contingent comprises 47 professional rescuers, including highly trained dogs for locating trapped individuals, along with specialized equipment. This team possesses the technical and operational capacity to conduct independent field operations for seven consecutive days. President Noboa emphasized that the personnel are ready to deploy to Colombia as soon as Colombian authorities request their assistance.

"All our solidarity with Colombia and with the families affected by this morning's earthquake. Colombia, Ecuador is with you. We are making our USAR team available: 47 rescuers, specialized dogs, and equipment with autonomy to operate for 7 days," Noboa stated on social media.

The earthquake's epicenter was located 82 kilometers deep in San José del Palmar, Chocó. The seismic event caused damage to buildings in cities such as Quibdó, Cali, Pereira, and Manizales. It was also felt across various Ecuadorian provinces, where authorities are actively monitoring the situation.
