The Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) has lodged a formal complaint with FIFA, protesting events that occurred both before and during their 2-0 World Cup defeat against Mexico. The federation is demanding a thorough investigation into all incidents that may have compromised the safety of their players and supporters.

"Regarding what happened against Mexico, the FEF has submitted a formal claim to FIFA, requesting a detailed investigation of the events that occurred before and during the match, including all those that could have compromised the safety of our fans and players," the Federation announced in a statement. The FEF asserts that this is the appropriate official channel to clarify any issues related to a match of such significance.

Following the match, Ecuadorian journalists and fans claimed to have been subjected to the throwing of liquids and objects by local supporters.

In addition to addressing the match-related complaints, the FEF stated that it has begun the priority process of searching for a new national team coach.
