Ecuador's FECT film festival to showcase global cinema

Ecuador is set to host the seventh edition of the Festival Ecuatoriano Turicine (FECT), a vibrant cinematic event scheduled for the first half of August in Quito. This year's festival promises a diverse global showcase, featuring films from across America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. Organizers announced that the event will not only present international productions that have garnered acclaim at major festivals like Cannes, Berlin, and San Sebastián but also serve as a crucial platform for promoting Ecuadorian cinema. The festival aims to foster exchange between filmmakers and audiences, strengthening the production of national films and cultivating new viewership for Ecuadorian cinema. Felipe Egas, president of Turicine, emphasized that each festival edition offers a unique opportunity for the public to discover new stories and for local filmmakers to share the screen with international productions shaping global cinematic conversations. Beyond showcasing recognized features, FECT will highlight emerging directors representing the present and future of Ecuador's audiovisual sector. A highly anticipated National Fiction Short Film Competition will feature seven productions reflecting diverse perspectives and narratives from Ecuador. Additionally, the Latin American Student Short Film Competition will bring together emerging talent from Ecuador, Argentina, Brazil, and Bolivia, reinforcing the festival's role as a hub for new talent.
