Ecuador's Jhordy Mina to defend WBC continental title in Quito

Ecuadorian boxer Jhordy 'Vikingo' Mina is set to defend his WBC Continental Latino title in Quito on August 1, 2026, facing Mexican challenger Jesús 'Rey Sol' Solís. Mina, a 29-year-old welterweight, is the highest-ranked Ecuadorian boxer according to Box Rec and holds the 33rd spot in the WBC's welterweight rankings.

With a professional record of 11 wins, three losses, and one draw, Mina's only defeat in the last six years was in 2020. He secured his continental title in March 2027 by defeating Alberto Palmetta in Buenos Aires via split decision, even knocking Palmetta down in the seventh round.

Mina, who adopted the 'Vikingo' moniker from his fascination with Norse mythology, began boxing at 16 and turned professional at 22. He credits his family's unwavering support through numerous challenges, including canceled fights and personal setbacks, for his perseverance.

He views himself and his team as the face of Ecuadorian boxing, aiming for greater achievements. Mina also hopes a victory against Solís will be a special birthday gift for his daughter, whose birthday is August 3, two days after the fight. The bout will headline the Quorum Fight Night XIV event.
