Ecuador's U20 Women's Team to Debut at 2026 World Cup in Poland

The Ecuadorian U20 women's national football team is set to make its World Cup debut in Poland, marking a significant milestone for the program. This appearance follows their strong performance in the South American Championship held in Paraguay, where they secured the runner-up position behind powerhouse Brazil.

During the South American Championship, Ecuador finished third in the group stage but improved their performance in the final hexagonal round. They achieved three victories and two draws, including a crucial tie against Brazil that determined the championship title. Mary Guerra emerged as a key player, scoring four goals, supported by talents like Fiorella Pico and Xiomara Alcívar.

This World Cup qualification represents a notable achievement, surpassing Ecuador's previous best finish of third place in the 2004 South American Championship. Historically, Ecuadorian youth teams have struggled to advance past the group stage in past tournaments.

Ecuador has been drawn into Group C for the World Cup, which runs from September 5 to 27. They will face formidable opponents: France, a semifinalist in previous tournaments; South Korea, a two-time Asian champion; and Ghana, making its eighth consecutive World Cup appearance. The team will compete in stadiums located in Lodz, Bielsko–Biała, Katowice, and Sosnowiec.
