Eight Coaches Depart Ecuador's Top League in 2026; Orense Leads in Managerial Changes

Ecuador's top football league is experiencing significant coaching turnover, with Hernán Torres becoming the eighth manager to depart this year. Torres's exit from Orense, announced after their 2-1 loss to Mushuc Runa on July 20, 2026, marks Orense as the club with the most managerial changes in the current season.

Torres's departure follows a string of other high-profile exits. In July alone, Tiago Nunes left Liga de Quito, and Francisco Usucar departed from Técnico Universitario. Liga de Quito is currently being managed on an interim basis by Patricio Hurtado, while Bernardo Redín has taken charge at Técnico Universitario.

Earlier in the year, several other clubs also changed their technical directors. Delfín, Libertad, Emelec, and Leones del Norte saw the departures of Juan Zubeldía, Juan Carlos León, Vicente Sánchez, and Édison Méndez, respectively. Orense itself had already seen one managerial change before Torres's arrival, having removed Raúl Antuña early in the season after failing to qualify for the Copa Sudamericana group stage.

Despite the frequent changes, some clubs have maintained stability in their coaching positions. Teams like Independiente del Valle, Aucas, Barcelona SC, Universidad Católica, Macará, Deportivo Cuenca, Guayaquil City, Mushuc Runa, and Manta have kept their current managers, Joaquín Papa, Norberto Araujo, César Farías, Diego Martínez, Raúl Sanguinetti, Jorge Célica, Pool Gavilánez, Paúl Vélez, and Javier Carvajal, respectively.
