Ecuador to Host First-Ever Fight Between Michael Morales and Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera

Ecuador will host its first major MMA event featuring homegrown stars Michael Morales and Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera on October 4, 2026. The fight is part of the Hype Fighting Championship card, an event promoter Armand Martirosian is bringing to the country.

Martirosian told EL COMERCIO that securing the participation of Morales and Vera was surprisingly easy. He explained that both fighters were eager to compete in Ecuador and did not even ask about their compensation. "They only wanted to compete in their country," Martirosian said.

The promoter also shared his strategy for choosing event locations, opting for countries with a strong interest in MMA but less competition, like Ecuador. He noted that the event is already attracting international ticket buyers from the United States, Italy, and Colombia, suggesting it will boost tourism.

I choose countries where there isn't as much competition, but where people like MMA. Ecuador is one of those countries and, besides, it is one of the most beautiful.

Martirosian has experience managing fighters with active UFC contracts. He recalled a past incident where UFC executive Hunter Campbell contacted him about featuring UFC fighters without prior approval. Campbell advised against pitting active UFC fighters against each other, a guideline Martirosian intends to follow. Despite this, he is confident in bringing top talent like Morales and Vera to the Ecuadorian stage.
