Ecuadorian Musician Mauricio Núñez Appears in Video After Family Accident

Ecuadorian musician Mauricio Núñez, the lead singer of Los Hermanos Núñez, has shared a video update from his hospital bed, showing signs of a favorable recovery following a serious traffic accident. The incident, which occurred in the early morning of August 12, 2026, tragically claimed the life of his wife, Giomara Lozada Ortega.

In the video, Núñez appeared alongside his doctor, Marcos Valenzuela, expressing his gratitude for the outpouring of support and prayers from his fans. "The doctor was the one who took care of this voice for all of you, my soul friends. To all of Ecuador, a hug and thank you for your prayers," the artist said from the health center where he is being treated.

Núñez and his children, who were also involved in the accident, are reported to be in stable condition and under close medical supervision in Quito. The musician underwent complex surgeries for severe injuries including high-cinematic polytrauma, closed thoracic trauma, left hemopneumothorax, and multiple left rib fractures. A statement from Los Hermanos Núñez on August 18 detailed a five-hour surgical procedure that included bronchoscopy, minithoracotomy, costal osteosynthesis with titanium clips, intercostal blockade, and drain placement. This was followed by an additional three-hour surgery for reconstructive plastic surgery on his left leg and forehead.
