Ecuadorian Roads Prepared for August 10 Holiday Amidst Various Incidents

Ecuadorian authorities have activated a comprehensive operation to ensure road safety and manage traffic during the upcoming August 10 holiday weekend. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Technology (MIT) has deployed technical staff, machinery, and road patrols across the country.

The National Transit Agency (ANT) and the Ecuadorian Traffic Commission are collaborating on these safety initiatives. The Integrated Security Service (ECU911) reported ongoing incidents in nine provinces as of 8:45 AM. These issues range from partial road closures to conditions requiring drivers to proceed with caution.

The MIT has assigned 109 specialized technicians and machinery operators to address any events caused by natural phenomena or other contingencies affecting the road network. Additionally, 206 units of road machinery have been positioned at critical points on the state highway system, supported by 26 road patrol units conducting continuous surveillance.

Traffic safety will be reinforced by 5,103 traffic agents utilizing 450 operational units for control and preventive patrols. These agents will conduct checks at highways, toll stations, and bus terminals, also coordinating vehicle flow during the holiday period. ANT officials will inspect public transport buses at terminals to verify their condition and urge the public to prevent traffic accidents.

Specific routes with reported issues include the Cuenca-Molleturo-Naranjal highway, where kilometer 101 has partial access for light vehicles up to 3.5 tons, and caution is advised at several other kilometers. The El Triunfo-La Troncal-Cochancay road is serving as an alternate route. Several sections in Manabí province, including Canuto-Calceta-Jipijapa, Rocafuerte-Tosagua, and San José de Chamanga-Pedernales, are experiencing issues. In Zamora Chinchipe, the El Pangui-Tundayme, Zumbi-Paquisha, and Zamora-Yantzaza roads have reported problems. Additionally, the Y del Salto-Chamanga road in Esmeraldas requires caution due to the overflow of the Sucio River.
