Ecuadorian woman missing in Mexico found alive: 'She is out of danger'

After 10 days missing in Mexico City, Ecuadorian historian Jenny Kalindy Bolívar Guayacundo was found alive in the southern borough of Tlalpan, Mexico City. Authorities said she was out of danger and taken to a hospital for medical and psychological care.

Bolívar, who was studying for a doctorate at Mexico's Center for Research and Higher Studies in Social Anthropology, was last seen on August 26 in Coyoacán. Authorities reported her disappearance on September 1.

Jenny was moving around on her own, disoriented and in need of medical attention.

The Mexico City Fiscalía and the city's Missing Persons Search Commission said the search involved the Citizen Security Secretariat, hospitals, shelters, refuges and other institutions. Officials also reviewed images from the capital's surveillance system and private video recordings, as well as the property where Bolívar had been staying in Coyoacán. Her family took part in the investigation.

There are no indications that she was the victim of a crime.

The breakthrough came after information was anonymously shared with people close to Bolívar. The tip suggested that she might be in the Huipulco area of Tlalpan. Once officials verified the information, they coordinated her location. The Fiscalía said Bolívar had been moving around on her own, disoriented and in need of medical attention. The person who reported her disappearance and other acquaintances were present when authorities found her.

The Fiscalía said there were no indications that Bolívar had been the victim of a crime. Mexico City Mayor Bertha Alcalde Luján also confirmed that specialized personnel took her to a hospital for evaluation and treatment, and that her life was not in danger.
