Ecuadorians in California: Passport Application Costs and Procedures at the Los Angeles Consulate

Ecuadorian citizens residing in California can now manage their passport applications at the Consulate in Los Angeles. The process for obtaining a new ordinary passport or renewing an existing one requires the applicant's physical presence, submission of necessary documentation, and payment of a fee.

The standard fee for an ordinary passport is $90, excluding value-added tax, according to Ecuador's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility. This fee is subject to a 50% reduction for individuals over 65, bringing the cost down to $45. Furthermore, citizens with a disability of 30% or more are exempt from the payment upon presenting their disability card.

Requirements for first-time applicants include a national identity card. For renewals, a document proving identity and nationality is necessary. If the previous passport is still valid, it must be presented; otherwise, a police report for a lost passport is required. Minors require the presence of parents and special powers of attorney.
