Edmonton's 184 Street bridge over Yellowhead Trail to close for 3 months of construction

The City of Edmonton is closing the 184 Street bridge over Yellowhead Trail for a three-month rehabilitation project. The closure, set to begin the week of Aug. 10, aims to complete essential work before the end of the current construction season.

This renovation is crucial as the bridge, built in the early 2000s, has not undergone significant upgrades since its construction. The project will involve renewing the bridge deck, repaving the asphalt surface, and installing an upgraded waterproofing system to extend the overpass's lifespan.

During the closure, drivers will not be able to use the 184 Street bridge to cross over Yellowhead Trail. However, the city assures that ramps connecting to and from Yellowhead Trail, as well as access to and from 184 Street itself, will remain open. Commuters are advised to use alternative routes such as Anthony Henday Drive or the 156 Street and 170 Street overpasses.

Public transit will see minimal disruption, with ETS bus stops and general access remaining unchanged. However, on-demand transit services may experience longer travel times. The overpass is expected to reopen in the fall, though an exact date has not yet been specified.
