Edo@35: Okpebholo, deputy reaffirm commitment to development

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo and Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa have pledged to accelerate the state's development, marking the 35th anniversary of Edo's creation. The governor congratulated citizens, emphasizing unity, resilience, and shared progress under the administration's SHINE Agenda.

Okpebholo reflected on Edo's journey since its creation from Bendel State in 1991. He stated that the anniversary serves as an opportunity to assess progress, consolidate achievements, and renew collective commitment. "Edo’s 35 years represent both an achievement and a responsibility," he said, highlighting the state's deep cultural roots and economic potential.

The administration detailed its focus on key sectors. In security, collaboration with agencies has been strengthened to combat criminal activities. Healthcare is being prioritized through facility upgrades and health worker training, particularly at primary centers. Education remains a major focus, with increased subventions to Ambrose Alli University and Edo State University, alongside a recruitment drive for teachers to address manpower gaps.

Significant infrastructure projects are underway, including road rehabilitation across the state and the construction of the first flyovers at Ikpoba Hill and Sapele Road in Benin City. Urban renewal projects are also being pursued to enhance major cities and communities. In the energy sector, the administration is working to expand power generation and improve supply, citing the 100-megawatt power project at Ologbo and related infrastructure at the Taihu Industrial Park as crucial steps toward reliable electricity for industrial growth.

Governor Okpebholo stressed that reliable energy is critical for industrialization and economic growth, aiming to attract investment, support businesses, and create jobs. The administration's efforts are geared towards overcoming electricity supply constraints and fostering a more robust economic environment for the people of Edo.
