Nigerian Governors Reject Blame for Fuel Subsidy Funds

Nigerian governors, under the umbrella of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), have pushed back against accusations of mismanagement regarding funds derived from the removal of fuel subsidies. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, speaking through Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State, dismissed the notion that states should bear blame for the handling of these proceeds.

According to AbdulRazaq, the NACTP is a state-led effort designed to translate CNG's cost efficiencies into cheaper transportation for citizens. The program envisions states supporting CNG vehicle conversions, fleet development, and infrastructure, with operators committing to reduced fares. Governors acknowledged the program's potential to ease transportation burdens and agreed to further examine its financing and implementation framework.

The governors highlighted the critical role of transportation costs in the prices of food and other essentials. They argued that reducing transport expenses would create a positive ripple effect across the economy.
