Edo NDLEA Seizes 7,245kg of Cannabis, Busts Major Drug Cartel

In a significant breakthrough, the Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully dismantled a major drug cartel operating in the northern part of the state. The operation, characterized by meticulous intelligence gathering and surveillance, led to the interception of two trucks laden with an astonishing 7,245 kilogrammes of skunk cannabis. This seizure, the largest of its kind in the command's history involving two trucks simultaneously, represents a major disruption to inter-state drug trafficking networks.

This successful interception is a clear message to drug barons and traffickers that Edo State is not a safe haven for criminal trade.

The operation, executed on Saturday, April 11, 2026, culminated in the arrest of five suspected traffickers. The intercepted cannabis, a highly potent variant, has an estimated street value of N724.5 million. NDLEA Commander Mitchell Ofoyeju hailed the operation as a testament to the command's unwavering commitment and operational precision, sending a clear message that Edo State will not be a haven for criminal trade.

The large volume of this seizure, which is over seven metric tonnes of cannabis, highlights the scale of the threat we are combating.

This success directly supports the strategic mandate and zero-tolerance directive of the NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd). The agency remains resolute in its mission to dismantle drug trafficking networks, apprehend offenders, seize illicit substances, and trace illegally acquired assets. The interception of these drugs prevents them from reaching the streets and potentially destroying the lives of countless individuals, particularly the youth.
