Edo police rescue remaining abducted Lagos-bound passengers

The Edo State Police Command has announced the successful rescue of the last six passengers who were abducted along the Benin-Lagos Road. The victims were part of a Young Shall Grow Motors bus traveling from Akwa Ibom State to Lagos when they were attacked and kidnapped on May 9, 2026, near the Ogua Community.

Following the incident, the police immediately launched coordinated rescue and bush-combing operations. These efforts led to the initial rescue of five passengers, including two adults and three children. The command utilized advanced techniques, including drone deployment, aerial surveillance, and intelligence-driven policing, in subsequent operations.

The Edo State Police Command wishes to update the general public on the kidnapping incident which occurred on 9th May, 2026, at Ogua Community along the Benin–Lagos Road, where armed kidnappers attacked a commercial bus belonging to Young Shall Grow Motors conveying 13 passengers from Akwa Ibom State to Lagos, during which a female passenger was shot by the hoodlums.

On May 10, 2026, a gun duel with the kidnappers resulted in the rescue of two more passengers. The command confirmed that the remaining six abducted passengers were all rescued unharmed, bringing the total number of rescued individuals to 13. The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, commended the operatives involved and assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators.

The incident involved 13 passengers initially, with one female passenger sustaining a gunshot injury during the attack. The successful rescue operation highlights the police's commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of citizens along major transit routes.
