Edo Queens defeat ASEC Mimosas to advance in CAFWCL Qualifiers

Nigeria's Edo Queens have advanced to the next round of the WAFU-B CAF Women's Champions League qualifiers after a convincing 3-1 victory over Ivorian champions ASEC Mimosas. The match, held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, saw the Nigerian side dominate despite an early back-and-forth contest.

Edo Queens opened the scoring in the 23rd minute with a powerful header from Oluwakemi Adegbuyi. They extended their lead just before halftime when Doorshima Tarnum capitalized on a defensive lapse, tapping in a well-worked team move in the 41st minute. This two-goal cushion provided Edo Queens with significant control heading into the break.

ASEC Mimosas fought back in the second half, pulling a goal back in the 83rd minute through Doudou Yeti, sparking hopes of a comeback. However, Edo Queens maintained their composure and quickly reasserted their dominance. Oluebube Umajiaku sealed the victory, scoring the third goal 11 minutes from time to secure a decisive 3-1 win.

With this result, Edo Queens have secured six points from two matches, positioning them strongly to progress from Group B. The win brings them closer to qualifying for the CAF Women's Champions League finals. Conversely, the defeat leaves defending champions ASEC Mimosas in a precarious position, facing the possibility of an early exit from the competition.
