Education Ministry Insists Dominican School Hours Are Mandatory

The Dominican Education Ministry has insisted that schools across the country must follow the academic calendar and daily schedule approved by the National Education Council.

The warning came after the Dominican Association of Teachers ordered a reduction in the school day at public schools in Greater Santo Domingo. In response to a request from Diario Libre, the ministry said the approved schedule remains binding on all education centers.

“ The calendar and school schedule approved by the National Education Council must be followed in all education centers across the country, guaranteeing the right of our children and adolescents to receive instruction and the learning time to which they are entitled,” the institution said.

The ministry added that one of the main challenges of the school year is improving the quality of learning. It said compliance with the schedule is fundamental to ensuring that students receive the full amount of learning time assigned to them.
