EFCC arrests fake operative over alleged N3m fraud in Maiduguri

Authorities in Nigeria have apprehended Nuhu Dahiru for allegedly posing as an operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and defrauding members of the public. The EFCC announced the arrest on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, stating that Dahiru was taken into custody by operatives from its Maiduguri Zonal Directorate.

The suspect was reportedly arrested in Tashan Bama, along Bama Road in Maiduguri, Borno State. The EFCC acted on credible intelligence indicating that Dahiru had been falsely presenting himself as an EFCC officer to deceive unsuspecting individuals. The commission alleges that through this impersonation, Dahiru obtained approximately N3 million by false pretenses.

During the arrest, a total sum of N3 million was recovered from the suspect. The EFCC stated, "The suspect was arrested in Tashan Bama, along Bama Road, Maiduguri, Borno State, following credible intelligence indicating that he had been parading himself as an officer of the EFCC, and thereby defrauding unsuspecting members of the public."

Officials confirmed that Dahiru will face charges in court once the investigation is concluded. The EFCC continues its efforts to combat financial crimes and corruption across the country.
