Egypt faces intense heatwave across next 72 hours

Egypt faces a severe heatwave, with the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) forecasting three consecutive days of intense heat and high humidity across the country starting Sunday.

Temperatures in Greater Cairo and Lower Egypt are predicted to peak at 36C until midweek, before slightly decreasing. Northern coastal areas will experience temperatures between 30-31C, while Upper Egypt could see highs of 37-38C, and southern Upper Egypt reaching up to 41C. The high humidity levels are expected to make the perceived temperature feel two to four degrees Celsius warmer than the actual recorded temperature.

The EMA also warned of potential fog formation on roads between 4 AM and 8 AM in several regions, including northern Egypt, Greater Cairo, Suez Canal cities, central Sinai, and northern Upper Egypt. Drivers are urged to be cautious during these early morning hours. Intermittent wind activity is also expected throughout the week.

Citizens are strongly advised to monitor weather forecasts regularly, minimize direct sun exposure during the hottest parts of the day, and ensure adequate fluid intake to cope with the extreme conditions.
