Egypt inaugurates news ‘Octagon’ defense headquaters

Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi inaugurated the nation's new Strategic Command Headquarters, a sprawling complex known as "The Octagon." Located in the New Administrative Capital, approximately 45 kilometers east of Cairo, the facility features eight interconnected octagonal buildings.

During the inauguration ceremony, Sissi, who also serves as supreme commander of the armed forces, stated that the headquarters "represents a significant leap in our command, control, and operations management systems." The Egyptian Defense Minister, Ashraf Salem Zaher, added that the complex "forms the core of the state’s command system, relocating the Armed Forces General Command to achieve unified control through continuous development."

The Octagon is reportedly the largest such complex in the Middle East, designed to serve as an integrated administrative and defense hub. It is intended to merge command, control, communications, and artificial intelligence systems, operating as a smart command center for crisis management. Media reports suggest the complex covers 22,000 acres.

I emphasize the necessity of supporting these agreements, insisting on their full implementation, and preventing any attempts to thwart, circumvent, or undermine them.

In his remarks, Sissi also touched upon regional diplomacy, expressing appreciation for U.S. President Donald Trump's efforts in brokering agreements to end conflicts in Gaza and with Iran. He stressed the importance of supporting and fully implementing these agreements. Sissi reiterated Egypt's long-standing position on Middle East peace, advocating for a comprehensive agreement that resolves the Palestinian issue and establishes an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, asserting that lasting peace is unattainable without ending the occupation and restoring rights.
