Egypt inaugurates 'The Octagon,' its largest strategic command complex in the Middle East

Egypt has officially opened its new State’s Strategic Command Headquarters, dubbed "The Octagon," in the New Administrative Capital. President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi described the facility as a monument to the Egyptian people and a symbol of the nation's role in promoting peace and stability.

The headquarters is designed to be the strategic center of the Egyptian state, integrating command, control, communication, and crisis management systems. It aims to institutionalize centralized governance and represents a significant advancement in national security.

Major General Mohamed Abdel Monem, former director of the Center for Strategic Studies, highlighted that "The Octagon" signifies a shift in Egypt's security doctrine from reactive crisis management to proactive planning. The center utilizes advanced technologies, including satellite surveillance, for threat monitoring, analysis, and forecasting, offering a comprehensive view of potential domestic and international risks.

Abdel Monem noted that such advanced command centers are rare globally, with comparable facilities in the US and Russia. He stated that Egypt's center is the largest in the Middle East in terms of physical size and equipment, and is the most technologically advanced. The center has already demonstrated its capabilities through trial phases, including early warning systems that mitigated the impact of floods in Sudan and secured maritime navigation in the Red Sea and Suez Canal during regional tensions.

Crucially, the Strategic Command Center operates using locally developed operating systems and technologies, ensuring technological sovereignty and structural resilience.
