Egypt to lead Arab AI and quantum computing working groups

Egypt has been elected to lead two significant working groups within the Arab Permanent Committee for AI and Emerging Technologies. The country will chair the AI Governance Working Group and the Quantum Computing Working Group, signaling growing Arab confidence in Egypt's technological capabilities. This achievement occurred during the committee's second founding meeting in Tunisia. The Arab Permanent Committee for AI and Emerging Technologies, affiliated with the Council of Arab Ministers of Communication and Information, seeks to enhance regional cooperation in artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies. Its objectives include supporting digital transformation, building knowledge-based economies, and presenting a unified Arab front in international discussions. Egypt's selection underscores its increasing prominence in shaping the future of technology within the Arab world. The committee's work involves developing regional policies, fostering capacity building, and monitoring global technological advancements. The AI Governance Working Group will focus on creating a framework for AI ethics and governance, while the Quantum Computing Working Group will draft an Arab strategy for quantum computing, explore its applications, and investigate quantum cybersecurity. Egypt previously hosted the committee's first meeting in May.
