Eid-al-Adha 2026: Zamfara governor urges increased prayers for peace

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has called for intensified prayers for peace in the state and across Nigeria as Muslims observe Eid al-Adha 2026. In a statewide broadcast on Wednesday, Governor Lawal extended his felicitations to Muslims, emphasizing the significance of the festival of sacrifice, which honors Prophet Ibrahim's obedience to Allah.

I felicitate with the Muslims on the occasion of Eid al-Adha 2026. The sacrifice performed during Eid is symbolic of Prophet Ibrahim’s submission and is also part of the Hajj rites for pilgrims.

Lawal expressed gratitude to Allah for enabling the historic airlift of pilgrims from Gusau International Airport. He noted the symbolic nature of the sacrifice during Eid, mirroring Prophet Ibrahim’s submission and forming part of the Hajj rites. The governor specifically urged the people of Zamfara, particularly those undertaking the pilgrimage, to remain steadfast in their prayers for the state and the nation.

Highlighting progress in security, Governor Lawal stated that efforts to combat banditry are yielding results, evidenced by the return of dispersed communities to their homes. He cited the successful return of thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their ancestral village of Fegin Kanawa in Gusau Local Government Area last week, after more than a year of displacement, as a testament to collective prayers.

We have made progress in the fight against banditry, which is why dispersed communities are returning to their homes.

"We are committed to ensuring the safe return of all displaced persons to their homes," Lawal affirmed. "Such successes are only possible due to our collective prayers. I urge us to pray more, especially during sacred religious festivals." The governor joined thousands of Muslims for the Eid prayer at the Gusau Central Eid prayer ground, reinforcing the message of unity and devotion.
