Eight Arrested in Taiwan for Extorting Massage Parlor Chain

A criminal group terrorized a well-known chain of massage parlors across Taipei and New Taipei City with a series of intimidation tactics and vandalism. The perpetrators resorted to threats, including sending a bulletproof vest, and later escalated to splashing paint, waste, and even insects onto the businesses.

Taipei police formed a special task force to investigate the escalating harassment. Their investigation revealed the attacks were linked to a NT$60 million debt dispute involving a former shareholder of the massage chain. The group allegedly targeted the business to pressure the former shareholder or the company to settle the debt, causing significant distress and damage.

Authorities arrested three teenagers involved in the direct acts of vandalism. Further investigation, utilizing surveillance footage and tracking technology, led to the apprehension of five more individuals, including a 37-year-old man identified as the alleged mastermind. This man, reportedly associated with the Bamboo Union's Hong Ren Hui gang, is accused of orchestrating the attacks.

In total, eight people were taken into custody and will face charges including extortion, property damage, and organized crime offenses. The arrests aim to dismantle the criminal network responsible for the targeted harassment of the massage businesses.
