Engineer's Wrong-Way Crash Kills Elderly Scooter Driver in Taiwan

A tragic head-on collision on Xinyi Road in Toufen City, Miaoli, Taiwan, resulted in the death of an 83-year-old man driving an electric mobility scooter. The incident occurred around 9 a.m. on June 24, when a 36-year-old male engineer, surnamed Huang, driving a sport utility vehicle, crossed into the oncoming lane.

Huang, who had just finished a night shift at a science park in Zhunan, reportedly claimed he suddenly felt dizzy, leading to the accident. His SUV first struck the elderly man's scooter, then continued to hit a parked truck, a residential gate, and a lamppost before coming to a stop. The impact sent the elderly man flying, and he was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police confirmed that Huang was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the crash. The detailed cause of the accident is currently under investigation. The elderly victim was reportedly on his way to visit his son when the collision occurred. The scene was described as chaotic, with the SUV and scooter severely damaged.
