Eight Injured in Kamen Apartment Building Fire; Building Uninhabitable

A fire in a multi-family building in the city center of Kamen, Germany, left eight people injured, including three children. The incident occurred shortly before midnight on Monday.

According to Björn Stübe, deputy press spokesperson for the Kamen Fire Department, frightened residents were seen at third-floor windows calling for help as emergency services arrived. Firefighters rescued five residents using a ladder truck. Eight individuals in total were transported to the hospital. The building, which contained two apartments and a driving school, had to be evacuated.

One resident described the rapid escalation of the event, stating, "It all happened so fast; I was actually going to go to sleep." She added, "Now I can't go home; I don't know how long this will take." The fire department reported that firefighting efforts concluded during the night, but the building is no longer habitable. A structural engineer is scheduled to inspect the building in the morning.

Among the injured, one firefighter and one adult suffered severe injuries, though they are not considered life-threatening. The three children sustained minor injuries. The cause of the fire and the full extent of the damage are still under investigation.
