Eight Kilograms of TNT Found in Austrian Lake for Second Time This Summer

Authorities in Bad Ischl, Austria, have discovered another cache of explosives in the dried-up Nussensee lake, marking the second such find this summer.

A hiker from Tyrol found four blocks of TNT, totaling eight kilograms, on Friday. The explosives disposal service secured and destroyed the material. This discovery follows a similar incident in late July when wartime debris and explosives were unearthed from the same lake.

Due to persistent drought, the water level of the Nussensee, typically around 15 meters deep, had dropped significantly. Following the initial discovery in July, authorities issued a temporary ban on access to the area. Experts from the federal army's disposal service subsequently searched the lakebed, finding an additional two kilograms of TNT, hundreds of detonators, screws, and two stick grenades.

Following the latest find, police issued a warning to the public about the possibility of further dangerous discoveries around the lake. They urged anyone encountering suspicious objects to contact the police immediately and stressed the importance of never touching such items due to the risk of explosion.
