Eintracht Frankfurt executive sees good chances for German 2042 World Cup bid

Germany has a strong chance of successfully bidding to host the 2042 FIFA World Cup, according to Axel Hellmann, spokesperson for Eintracht Frankfurt's executive board.

Hellmann expressed optimism about Germany's prospects, also seeing potential for a bid in 2038, though he acknowledged the ultimate decision lies with Bernd Neuendorf, president of the German Football Association (DFB).

He emphasized that hosting the tournament would send a positive signal to German society, demonstrating the country's ambition and interest. Hellmann highlighted Germany's existing infrastructure, predicting that all matches would be sold out and the event would be a success. Germany has previously hosted the World Cup in 1974 and 2006, the latter known as the "Sommermärchen" or "Summer fairy tale."

However, Hellmann also pointed out the significant investments and stadium renovations or new constructions that would be necessary. He noted that the expansion of the tournament to 48 teams, as seen in the recent World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, was a positive development. Whether international partners would join a German bid, especially given the rotation between continental confederations, remains uncertain for 2038.
